Data Backup and Recovery

Data is the lifeblood of modern business, therefore data backup plays a critical role.

The Importance of Data Backup and Recovery

Data backup and recovery play a crucial role in safeguarding your digital assets. Backups are secure copies of critical information, which allow you to quickly restore data in case of loss due to hardware failures, cyberattacks, or human error. Having a reliable backup strategy ensures peace of mind and maintains business continuity, especially in today’s world where data loss incidents are increasingly common.

At Revolution, we provide three types of backup:

1. Microsoft 365 Backup

Data Backup for Microsoft 365 (SaaS Backup)

Most people don’t realise that Microsoft is NOT backing up your data. In their terms of service, it says that backup is the responsibility of the customer. While Microsoft provides a form of ‘versioning history’ for files, a true backup service is required to protect your documents and email from accidental or malicious deletion, file corruption, or cyber-attacks.

Backup for Microsoft 365 accounts is a very cost-effective method of protecting data.

2. Cloud Backup

Cloud backup for computers and key workstations

Often businesses have mission-critical computers that must be resurrected quickly and without data loss in the event of failure. These might be computers with special software, VIP users, Server PCs, or production computers. Failure of these computers would affect company operations so the data must be accurately copied and stored offsite. This is where our cloud backup service shines – a complete backup image of the critical computer is copied multiple times a day to our datacentre ensuring your data, settings, and applications are kept safe and ready to be restored at a moment’s notice.

We offer two types of cloud data backup:

  1. Cloud Backup PC: a complete image of your PC backed up to cloud with a 500GB data limit
  2. Cloud Backup Server: a complete image of your Server PC or Key Workstation backed up to cloud multiple times per day with a 1TB data limit. This service includes critical backup recovery testing

3. BCDR Solutions

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR)

BCDR combines 2 key concepts for modern workplaces: Data Backup and Business Continuity

Data Backup: Our BCDR solution combines an on-site backup device with a secure cloud backup service. This gives the best of both worlds – speedy recovery from an onsite backup device AND secure offsite cloud storage to be used in the event of a disaster.

Business Continuity: Our BCDR devices can also be a stand-in server for your business. By spinning this device up either locally or from the cloud, we can ensure your business is always running if your server fails or must be taken offline for repairs.

BCDR Solutions offer:

  • Backup: Automatically creates secure copies of your data, ensuring it’s safe from accidental deletion, hardware failures, or cyber threats.
  • Disaster Recovery: In case of system crashes or major disruptions, BCDR devices allow for rapid recovery, whether it’s a single file or an entire server.
  • Cloud-Based Recovery: BCDR solutions include cloud-based recovery options, enabling seamless access to your data even if onsite systems fail.
  • Peace of Mind: Your critical data is protected, and we can quickly restore it when needed.
  • Ransomware Resilience: BCDR devices safeguard against ransomware attacks.
  • Minimal Downtime: Swift recovery ensures business continuity with minimal downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 3-2-1 rule of data backup?2024-05-08T13:56:35+12:00

Our data backup aligns with the industry-standard 3-2-1 rule, a time-tested approach:

Three Copies: Maintain at least three copies of your data. This includes the original data and two backups.

Two Storage Types: Store these copies on two different storage types. For example, combine local backups with cloud-based solutions.

One Copy Stored Offsite: Keep at least one copy offsite. Cloud storage provides an ideal offsite destination, offering scalability and geographic redundancy.

I have a USB backup plugged in – surely that is enough?2024-05-08T13:53:47+12:00

USB backup devices are rarely a good choice for business:

Risk of Loss or Theft: USB drives are small and portable, which makes them prone to being lost or stolen. If your USB drive goes missing, your critical data could be compromised.

Limited Lifespan: USB drives have a shorter lifespan compared to other storage options. Frequent use and exposure to physical stress can affect data integrity.

Security Concerns: USB drives are usually susceptible to viruses and malware. If infected, your backup data could be compromised.

Dependency on Physical Hardware: USB drives rely on the physical device. If it fails or gets damaged, your backup plan is toast.

Why take the risk with your critical business data? A proper backup plan requires no physical intervention from you, backs up your data continuously, and has redundancy built in.

Why do I need data backup?2024-05-08T13:51:30+12:00

User Error: By far the most common need for backup. Even the most careful employees can accidentally delete critical files or overwrite important data. Regular backups ensure that accidental mishaps don’t lead to permanent loss.

Natural Disasters: Cyclones, floods, fires—these events can disrupt power, damage your systems, and jeopardise your business continuity. Having offsite backups ensures resilience.

Hardware Loss: Theft, accidental destruction, or failure of a key computer or server could severely impact your business.
